Office Outfit: You were a dream that you should not have been, a fantasy real

I will be showing you a few of my office outfits from time to time, as a few people have asked me for more outfit posts. Unfortunately I don't get a chance to take pictures of my outfits very often (partly because I have no one to take the photos and partly because I just forget!) so I have started taking a few myself now and then. The photos are taken on my phone (as you can see) so they aren't fabulous but they give you an idea of what I wear to work on a daily basis at least!

Denim shirt - New Look
Jumper - H&M
Waxed Jeans - New Look
Shoes - New Look
Earrings - Primark

With these blog posts I decided to mix it up a little with my blog post titles. Keep your eye out for more office outfits and see if you can guess what the running theme is in the titles!

Avon Arctic Goddess

When I attended Avon's Arctic Goddess preview event in September I was super impressed by the quality of the eyeshadow quad palette in the collection. It looks like Avon have really stepped up their game with this one and the quality really speaks volumes.

Packaging is important when it comes to just about anything, but especially cosmetics. Many women use their cosmetics in public, on trains, in washrooms etc and it's important that whatever you pull out of your makeup bag doesn't look ugly or juvenile etc etc. Personally, I am not the biggest fan of the packaging for this quad, it's a little busy for my taste. However the colours are perfect for the collection and for the season, so I don't mind too much. It's not something I'd be embarassed to pull out in public for a touch-up.

The colours in the quad are stunning. A range of blues which fir the brief perfectly. My only qualm is that the colours in this palette are perhaps not suited to all women. Those with brown eyes would pull this look off beautifully, whilst those with lighter eyes would need to work a little more with the product to achieve a wearable look. Alesha Dixon - who is the face of this collection - proved that this palette can be used to create a stunning winter time look and the colours complemented her caramel complexion beautifully.

Check out the pigmentation of these colours! This is what I find most impressive. Avon were not known for producing the highest quality in eyeshadows which is why I am so pleased with this palette. The colours are vibrant and striking - even the lighter, shimmery colours. Overall, I think it is fair to say I am a happy bunny when it comes to this release from Avon, the pros definitely outweigh any cons for me!

What are your thoughts on the collection? Would you wear these colours?

OOTD: Oxblood and Studs

Many of you fashionistas out there will be aware that it was Fashion Week in London not so long ago. I was lucky enough to be asked by my lovely friend Rachel to pop along and check out London Fashion Weekend's activities at Somerset House.

We had a girly day of fashion, gossip and food (plus plenty of rain - thank you good old British weather!) and I thought I'd show you what I wore that day. Looking back I was a little bit of a numtee to have gone in flats and not worn boots, but let's overlook the fact that my feet were absolutely soaked (not to mention, frozen) by the end of the day.

What I wore:

Waxed Jeans - New Look
Shirt - A boutique store
Vest - Topshop
Blazer - Bershka
Shoes - H&M
Earrings - Primark

Yes, I know what you're thinking. I wasn't exaggerating when I told you in this post that I am completely obsessed with the colour of my shirt. I seem to include at least one oxblood coloured item in most of my outfits these days. Must give it a rest!!

A Greasy Myth?

If you have been reading my blog for a while you will be familiar with WIMH (click to join now!) which I have written about before. What's In my Handbag is a service which gives free product samples to members - ranging from perfume to foundation. I have been a member for some time now and have reviewed something I received here.

A short while ago I received a full sized product from the WIMH team. It's something I signed up to receive a trial for, from them, but wasn't successful at the time. It was a real pleasant surprise when this turned up at my door!

L'Oreal's Mythic Oil is a widely talked about product in the beauty and blogging world. Hair oils are becoming more and more popular and are replacing conditioners in many a hair routine these days - including mine. Where conditioners can drag the hair down and make it feel heavy, hair oils keep your hair feeling light and bouncy, whilst deeply nourishing the hair.

L'Oreal's hair oil is a formula enriched with argan oil and rice bran oil. it is suitable for all hair types but claims to be particularly effective on unruly, frizz-prone hair. The bottle has a spray function dispenser which I absolutely love. This gives you much better control with the amount of product you actually want to use. I find that with normal bottles which force you to pour the oil into your hands, there is very little control and I always end up using just a little too much oil than needed.

The oil can be used on towel-dried damp hair, or through dry hair after styling. I dispense one or two pumps into my hand and have used this on my hair once it's dry so far but will try it on damp hair to see if I prefer a specific routine. The ends of my hair are dry and brittle, due to years of dying and laziness when it comes to using heat protection on my hair, it's also very frizzy and coarse. From the very first time I used Mythic Oil, I noticed a massive difference to the condition of my hair, especially at the ends. My hair felt softer and easier to manage, and I noticed it looked healthier and shinier too - it doesn't look greasy either which is great. So far I am really pleased with this hair oil and will continue to use this in place of my usual almond oil. L'Oreal Mythic Oil is available for approximately £13 online.

Do you use hair oils? Would you replace your usual conditioner with one?

Monu Skincare: Cleanse and Tone

Monu Skincare is a brand I have heard a lot about but have never tried using myself. So when I was contacted by the brand I was quite intrigued to try a few products.

Monu's brand stands for 'Quality, Purity. Authenticity' and as a brand that offers a range of natural skincare products, they appear to be fulfilling their motto. They offer a collection of products which cater for all skin types from 'intensive care' for extremely dry skin, to 'first defence' for sun damaged skin.

The range I was sent to try is the 'Line Smoothing' range. I am someone who believes it is never to early to use preventative methods to reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles so this line is perfect for me. The bag contains several products which, when used together and on a regular basis, help to keep your skin firm and bouncy whilst reducing the appearance of fine lines.

The first two products I want to share with you are the Active Cleanser and Toner. I cleanse my face using the milky lotion, which I dispense on to my fingers and use all over my face and neck and rinse. I then take a clean cotton pad and soak it with toner (just so it's covered, not dripping!) and gently rub over my face and neck also.

I have been using the cleanser and toner for about 3 weeks now and although I don't expect to see a dramatic change or improvement to any fine lines over such a small time frame, I have felt some benefits to my skin generally. The cleanser and toner are so gentle and my skin feels soft and supple and it thoroughly cleansed. I have noticed my makeup applies better since using these products also, which is a huge plus.

The best thing about Monu products is of course, the fact that they contain no damaging chemicals, artificial perfumes or synthetic colours and Monu do not test their products on animals. So far, I am really pleased with the cleanser and toner and I definitely feel like they are helping my skin, which is perfect now that the colder months are approaching!

Monu skincare is available online here.

Have you tried any Monu products?

NOTD: Oxblood Obsession

My current nail colour just proves to me (and those around me) that I am ever so slightly obsessed with the oxblood craze that is so hot right now. Oxblood is simply a term for a reddish-brown colour and this, along with berry red is the colour to rock this season.

Chanel Rouge Noir is my absolute favourite polish to wear this Autumn. I love how this colour looks against my skintone and I use this a lot on my toenails also. This is just one coat of polish and although you can add another coat to give a deeper colour, I quite like how this looks when the light hits it.

I like the lid of the Chanel polishes which have the Chanel logo on them however, this large cube shaped lid comes off to reveal a small round lid, with a short brush on the end. Personally I find it a little wasteful to have the two lids but it does keep the bottle shape quite uniform and sleek.

This colour will be on my nails and in my outfits a lot this season - I really can't get enough of it!

Have you been pulled in by the Oxblood/Berry obsession?

Strictly Come Dancing Ballroom Beauty

So Strictly is back! If you didn't already know, Strictly Come Dancing is back on our screens and Avon have collaborated with the show to produce two scents based around the dancing sensation which hits our screen every year. There are two perfumes to choose from: Ballroom Beauty and Latin Seduction.

I chose Ballroom Beauty as the descritption of the scent appealed to me more. Avon says "Sparkle in the limelight with romantic raspberry, feminine pink rose petals and sensual amber". If you read my blog regularly, you'll know I'm a fan of fruity, feminine scents rather than deep, musky scents so this was right up my street.

The scent is light and fresh and reminds me a little of the Jimmy Choo perfume which I absolutely love - and this is definitely a cheaper alternative! It is quite a light scent and I find it doesn't last all day, so a top up spray is required if you're going out in the evening. The bottle is girly and pretty and although you can't see it very well in the photo above, it's a lovely baby pink shade which looks gorgeous on any dresser.

The Strictly Come Dancing Avon eau de toilettes are available via Avon and are priced at £12.99 per 50ml.

Japonesque Breast Cancer Awareness: Lovely Lashes

As someone who has experienced Breast Cancer within my family, I was happy when I was offered a product from the Breast Cancer Awareness range from Japonesque. Beauty has gone pink this month and for every item purchased from the pink collection, $1 will be donated to Breast Cancer Awareness Research. The range is available at and prices begin at £10.

I was sent the heated mini eyelash curler*. This little contraption comes with a battery and heats up within seconds. you just hold the curler comb under your lashes and gently lift, then hold in place until the desired curl is reached. The product has a lid and when closed, it looks around the same shape and size of a cigar. This means it slips easily into your handbag or makeup bag and can be taken anywhere!

I have to admit, it took a couple of tries before I got used to using the curler, as I am so used to using metal non-heated curlers on my lashes. this doesn't have the same clamp-like mechanism so you have to hold the curler at the right angle and brush it through your lashes slowly like a mascara wand. Unfortunately, I found this product didn't make a huge difference to my lashes and for now, I prefer using my metal lash curlers - but perhaps with a little more practise I could get used to these too. Japonesque offer a pink plastic version of the clamp-mechanism curlers also in this range, so grab one of those if the heated ones don't appeal to you!

Aside from the fact this product is pink (which appeals to my girly girl side) it also supports a fantastic cause, something which all women (and men!) should be aware of. The heated curler is priced at £12.50 and is available to buy online now.

Arctic Goddess OOTD: Gold Tips and Berry Toes

Just a quick post today to show you what I wore to the Avon event (read about that here) last week. I dressed simply as I was unwell on the day and didn't want to be uncomfortable travelling on the tube and walking around London.

What I wore:

Shirt: Zara
Jeans: New Look
Blazer: Bershka
Bag: H&M
Shoes: New Look
Earrings: Primark

My outfit incorporated Autumn/Fall's colours using berry coloured shoes with the end of Summer's shades with a mint green handbag - obviously I wasn't quite ready to say goodbye to the Summer just yet! Look out for Burgundy/Maroon/Berry colours in the shops as this is the season's hottest colour and suits everyone!
