NOTD: Perfectly Flesh

At the preview event for the new Arctic Goddess collection from Avon, I had my nails painted using one of the nailwear pro+ polishes.

These polishes are fortified with acrylic gel for strength and they claim to last for 12 days. I had my choice of about 40+ shades and in the end after a lot of umm-ing and ahh-ing I actually picked one which isn't from the Arctic Goddess collection. My choice was made once I saw Alesha Dixon's beautiful nails and I had to ask her which colour she was wearing. It's called 'Perfectly Flesh' and Alesha wears this polish everyday!

This is my new favourite nude/pink polish! It is perfect for everyday wear and I love how it complements my skintone. It is a pretty yet muted salmon pink colour and needs just two coats to look perfect.

I have been wearing this since last week and I can promise you one thing, this nail polish still looks like it was applied just yesterday! There are no chips whatsoever and I don't think I own even a single polish which has lasted this long without chipping even slightly. Obviously, this is down to the acrylic gel which is included in the formula, but at least the bottle does what it claims to do!

This is the first nail polish I've tried from Avon. There are so many gorgeous colours in the nailwear pro+ range of polishes and I will definitely be buying this colour as well as others now.

Leather and red/berry colours were all over the catwalks this season and this look incorporates both of these statements into one outfit. This is the perfect look for any daytime activity and could be off any catwalk from A/W 2012!

What's In My Bag?

My favourite blog posts and You Tube videos are the ones which allow me to be nosy and the what's in my bag tag, which has been going around for years in the blog and YT world, is the perfect excuse for a bit of nosiness.

The bag I used over the Spring and Summer is this Mint coloured handbag from H&M. It has a long strap handle, perfect for wearing the bag on your shoulder, and two smaller handles so that the bag can be held in the crook of your arm. The colour was perfect for the warmer months and the bag was big enough to hold everything I wanted to carry around with me.

In the small zipped pocket at the front of the bag I keep a few essentials: my oyster card, a mirror, a hair tie and lip balm.

The main large pocket holds everything else I carry: my purse, my work ID, my kindle and my phone charger

I don't carry makeup with me except a few lipglosses and some hand cream:

Lastly, I keep my ipod touch, my keys, a pair of sunglasses and my year planner in my bag - and of course, my phone!

I prefer to carry only the essentials that I know I use on a daily basis. If I am travelling this ensures my bag never feels overly heavy. I used to carry so much stuff in my bag and after a few hours my shoulder or arm would ache like mad! A good strap on your handbag will make sure you feel as little strain as possible, making your handbag a comfortable and practical addition to your outfit.

If you have a similar post or video on You Tube, don't forget to post the link in the comments for me to take a look!

Avon Arctic Goddess Collection

Last week Avon hosted an event in the gorgeous penthouse of the Mayfair hotel, to celebrate the launch of their new Arctic Goddess collection for A/W 2012.

The event was supported by the attendance of Pixiwoo's Sam and Nic, celebrity manicurist Marian Newman and Avon's beauty and empowerment ambassador Alesha Dixon.

As someone who has grown up with the Avon brand around me, I have noticed how the brand has remodelled itself to become more accessible and attractive for the younger generation. Avon is no longer one of those brands which you would only associate with mature women. This collection truly embraces the new vision and will appeal to women of all ages.

The collection's standout product was the Arctic Goddess eyeshadow palette (below on the far right) which was beautifully modelled by Alesha. The shadows are highly pigmented and the colours are striking and beautiful. The event itself was well organised and the Avon and Halpern PR staff were fun, friendly and super helpful. Here are a few images from the day:

The amazing view from the penthouse balcony:

A little preview of my outfit:

I spent some time chatting to Sam and Nic discussing everything beauty related and beyond. The lovely ladies are so gorgeous, friendly, helpful and had plenty of stories to tell.

Another highlight for me was meeting Alesha Dixon whose infectious, belly rumble of a laugh could be heard across the room and whose beauty radiated from her flawless makeup to her absolutely sexy Louboutin shoes!

The Arctic Goddess collection is available from your Avon representative or online and launches in November!

Today's post is a 'Stripes and Specs' outfit:

WIMH: Eau de Orla

I received a sample of the new eau de parfum from designer Orla Kiely through my membership with Whats In My Handbag (click the link for free membership!).

The self titled perfume was created in a perfume house in Paris and is inspired by nature.

The actual packaging of the full sized perfume is a glass bottle in the shape of the flower head you see on the drawing above. The lid is orange like the petals of the flower and overall the bottle is unique and would look cute sitting on a dresser.

The scent itself has light floral notes and is described as having "natural extracts of rose geranium and bergamot, subtly balanced with fresh fig and a hint of chocolate". Generally I'm not so keen on floral scents as I find them to be too strong and musky. I prefer fresh, fruity fragrances, however this perfume is absolutely beautiful. It has a youthful, fresh, pleasant sweet smell and is perfect worn in the summer or colder months. This is definitely on my list to buy as my next perfume!

NOTD: Tropical Temptation

I have been trying to hold on to summer for as long as possible and have been refusing to stop using my bright nail polishes. At the moment I have one of my all time favourite polishes on: Tropical Temptation by Revlon. This was one of the polishes I featured in this post not long ago.

This gorgeous coral shade reminds me of all things summery and really puts a smile on my face when I wear it. It also brings colour to a plain or dull coloured outfit in the most subtle of ways.

Revlon polishes are high in quality and two coats of this colour is enough to give a beautiful finish. The high shine formula also means you don't need a topcoat if you don't feel like completing the extra step. This will remain a firm favourite of mine for a long time.

Japonesque Safari Chic: Bronzed Bristles

Japonesque are known for their fantastic brushes and the Bronzer brush from their new collection does not let this reputation down at all!

The Safari Chic collection is definitely a showstopper. The bronzer brush looks essentially like a kabuki and is small and compact for easy use and transport. The animal print on the synthetic bristles is absolutely fabulous and is a real eye-catcher.

The bristles are soft and do not shed and the brush sits comfortably in my hand when in use. Although the brush is effective as a bronzer brush, I can see it being used widely as a powder brush as it would blend and buff really well. Overall the brush is a winner for me!

This brush retails at £19.50 and this along with the rest of the Safari Chic collection are available online at

Wedding FOTD

On the bank holiday Monday which just passed, my cousin got married in a beautiful manor house in Birmingham. The ceremony was lovely and the bride looked stunning.

On a daily basis I prefer not to wear too much makeup and my daily makeup doesn't really vary. However, I wore quite a bit more than usual for her wedding and I thought I'd share my wedding FOTD:

What I used:

To conceal dark shadows and cover up any redness on my face I used my favourite concealer by Maybelline. Read my full review of this product here

I used the Bourjois Delice de Poudre bronzer in shade 51 on my cheeks and for some slight contouring also. I applied MAC Coygirl blush to the apples of my cheeks and used a Clinique powder in Almond Blossom as a highlight just on the highest points of my cheekbones.

I lined my eyes on the water and tightline with Soap and Glory's Smoulder Kohl and lined above my top lashes with Collection 2000 Fast Stroke liquid liner. I applied the eyelure Naturalites false lashes in 070 and lightly coated my lashes in Benefit's Bad Gal mascara Read my review on Smoulder Kohl here

For my lips I applied NYX matte lip cream in Stockholm and then NYX mega shine lip gloss in Natural over the top.

I think in the future I will try to play around with some eyeshadows to finish the look. I must also become braver in my choice of lip colours! Look out for my everyday FOTD post which I will share with you soon.
