Makeup Masterclass with Frootibeauty

Hey dolls, last Sunday myself and a few other girls went to the Pink Crust salon in Hackney, east London to attend a makeup masterclass held by the amazing Safiyah, a freelance makeup artist and fellow blogger who writes Frootibeauty.

I have been a fan of her makeup style and have admired her skills for a long time now, so when this opportunity came about, I eagerly put my name down on the list to be a part of her class! Safiyah demonstrated one of her most popular makeup looks for us to learn and try for ourselves: the Naked Arab look using the Naked Palette from Urban Decay (please excuse the no makeup picture which is about to follow!)

Safiyah demonstrated the techniques used to create this look on one of my eyes. The girls watched and asked questions (I watched everything through a mirror) and then Safiyah asked us to work on creating the look by ourselves.

Safiyah was close by to offer advice and help when needed, but to be honest, she is such a great teacher that we all just got on with it!

Once we had learnt the eye makeup Safiyah showed us how to finish off the look using foundation and lipstick.

And here is the complete look!

The masterclass was definitely helpful and excellent for those with basic makeup skills like me or even those with much more established skills. Safiyah has a very informal, relaxed approach to teaching and it was so easy to follow what she had shown us. I learnt so many skills and some excellent techniques from the day and thoroughly enjoyed myself!

If you are interested in joining one of Safiyah's makeup masterclasses please visit her blog here.

Thank you to Safiyah and Sheenie for the photographs used in this post (as I was unable to take many on the day, being the one sat in the chair during the demo!)

NOTD: Nomad by Illamasqua

Hey dolls I have another quick NOTD to share with you. I am really enjoying the warm weather we're having at the moment and so have been using lots of Spring colours on my nails. Here's what I currently have on my hands:

'Nomad' is from the new Human Fundamentalism collection by Illamasqua. I noticed this polish at the event I attended for the launch of the new collection and immediately took a liking to it.

The colour is a beautiful Jade green shade which I think is so pretty and really fitting for the warm months.

I applied two coats of the polish. I was a little disappointed to find the first coat applied with massive streaks in it and I wasn't too keen on the formula of the polish. However, I applied a second (slightly thicker) coat and this did the trick. The polish looked smooth and creamy - just like I prefer.

The nail polish retails at £13.50 on the Illamasqua website and is available now!

What do you think of the green/mint trend for Spring? Have you tried any other Illamasqua products that you liked?

Link Love

Since I am a little behind with my blog posts, I wasn't able to share my favourite blog links last week with you lovelies - apologies! So without further delay, here are my favourite reads from last week:

Just Nice Things is a blog a collaboration between two lovely ladies, Helen and Sheenie. They share lots of gorgeous NOTDs and a mixture of skincare and beauty reviews. Their posts are in depth and informative and both writers bring something unique to the blog. The above link will take to a recent favourite post of mine from last week, written by Sheenie. She has found a fabulous way to store lipsticks to ensure that you get the most out of your collection, and no lipstick goes unnoticed!

Lily's blog has a clean and clear layout and looks like a professional website which is something I really like. You can find posts featuring her daily outfits which show her great sense of individual style and some amazing photography. Her blog features the newest beauty buys and swatches of products as well as her opinion on the products as she uses them. She is also a frequent YouTube video maker and her recent video features her top 10 nail polishes (link above goes to her blog and video). This has inspired me to do my own top 10 polishes post, so keep an eye out for that girls!

If you want to drool over stunning scenery and just beautiful photography in general, head on over to Zara's blog. She is highly skilled with a camera and her photographs are some of the best I have seen on any blog (and I read a lot of blogs!) The photo above is part of a series in the photo-a-day challenge which she is taking part in. However, do not just click on that link and miss everything else on her fabulous blog! Make sure you check out her other posts on beauty, lifestyle and her frequent travels around the world.

I like the mixture of reviews, photography and recommendations which Leanne brings to the table with her blog. She regularly shares discount codes and great shopping deals with her readers, which I think is so helpful and sweet of her. The link above goes to her review post on the Real Techniques brushes which I'm sure you will have heard/read about and maybe even used yourself! I have been debating whether or not to try these brushes out and all I have heard is positive reviews from other bloggers/Youtubers. Leanne however, gives a very honest opinion on each brush which may surprise some, and it is definitely worth a read if you are considering purchasing any brushes from the range.

If you don't already follow the blogs which these lovely ladies write - then do it now! Go follow them on Twitter too ;)

NOTD: Peach Melba

Hi ladies, I am seriously behind with blogging but I promise I have lots of posts coming up for you and huge list of more which I want to write up!

I recently won a little competition on Twitter with Barry M (click on the link!) and was sent three lovely products as my prize.

I received two nail polishes in Mint Green and Peach Melba and a Barry M lip paint in Pink Ribbon and I love them all!

I tried Peach Melba first on my nails. This picture was taken in daylight without the use of flash. The colour is a cross between a shade of orange and coral and is perfect for Spring. The colour is a little brighter than how it appears in the photograph, so I took another using flash to see if it made a difference.

The flash does make a difference and you can see how bright the colour actually is. I think this is going to be one of my favourite polishes to wear during the warmer months from now on and I can;t believe it's taken me so long to discover such a gorgeous colour!

As always with Barry M polishes, they apply easily and without any streaks and the quality of their polishes is second to none. This was two coats of colour and it was perfect and with a price tag of £2.99 at Boots and Superdrug stores, you really cannot go wrong!

Have you tried Peach Melba? What are your favourite nail polishes to wear during Spring?

Benefit Hello Flawless Liquid Foundation

Hey dolls how are you all? Last Tuesday evening I went down to the launch of Benefit's new "Hello Flawless Oxygen Wow" liquid foundation. The event was held at Tower 42 in London in a room on the 24th floor of the building, and just look at the amazing view we had!

Image from the Benefit Facebook album

In 2009 research began into what would make the perfect foundation. The people at Benefit brainstormed intensely and in 2012 they have come up with this:

The Hello Flawless Oxygen Wow foundation brings together all those aspects which we expect from a good foundation. It has brightening and hydrating properties, it uses an oil free formula and it contains SPF 25!

Head makeup artist Lisa gave us a demonstration along with some great tips on the best way to apply your foundation in order to keep it looking fabulous for longer. Her tips included, deep moisturisation of the face, followed by priming the skin and then applying your foundation with a brush as opposed to a sponge or your fingers.

After the demonstration the Benefit team helped each blogger to find their perfect colour match to the new foundation range. There are 9 shades to choose from, 3 light, 3 medium and 3 dark and I was matched to the shade "I'm so money, Honey" by the lovely Nafeesa.

As a complete foundation newbie, I want my first foundation to be something which feels light and allows my skin to breathe and this product does exactly that. It gives light-medium coverage and once applied it really feels like there is nothing on your skin! This is perfect for me, as I hate it if my skin feels heavy or clogged up from makeup. The foundation lasts for HOURS and it doesn't rub off on to your fingers easily like other foundations. I love the fact that it uses a pump dispenser, and although it is plastic packaging which may appear too simple and cheap-looking to some, it doesn't bother me at all. It keeps the bottle lightweight and easy to carry.

I would definitely recommend any first-time foundation users to give this foundation a try. Hello Flawless Oxygen Wow is available to purchase in stores and online from 31 March and retails at £24.50 a bottle - it really is something worth investing in ladies!

Do you like Benefit products? Have you tried Oxygen Wow yet? I'd love to hear your thoughts on their first staple liquid foundation!

Link Love

Hey lovelies hope you're all doing well. I wanted to start a little series of posts on my blog to share some of the blogs and blog posts which I read and have particularly enjoyed each week. I read some amazing blogs on a daily basis and am constantly inspired and encouraged by other bloggers' work. I hope some of you can feel also inspired by these blogs, so here's a few blog posts I've loved reading this week:

30 days of nails challenge

I absolutely love reading Fee's blog and looking at her beautiful photographs. Her blog has a clean and clear layout and is so easy to navigate around. Click on the link above to go to one of the posts from her 30 day nail challenge. She has chosen to post a different NOTD post everyday for this month - a great way to discover those long forgotten and unloved polishes!

Lil Miss Rosh by Roshni

Lil miss glossy: Morroccan oil treatment review

Roshni's blog is one of the blogs I read everyday without fail. Her blog is genuine and down-to-earth and I think every girl can relate to what she blogs about, whether it's frizzy hair troubles or body image insecurities. Roshni's blog is personal and so inspiring. The above link goes to her latest hair related post and her review on the Morroccan oil treatment. If you want a thorough, honest viewpoint on any product - read this blog!

Nail polish porn

Charlotte has a slight obsession with nail polishes - something which is pretty much clear as soon as you click onto her blog. Her blog is a compilation of great NOTDs using gorgeous colours and clever nail art. Charlotte discovers nail polishes from the most obscure brands which I really love and the above link is a sneak peek into her recent haul at the Pro Beauty show. I cannot wait to see some of the NOTDs she creates with these and I have serious nail polish envy over her collection!

Chocoholic Hijabi by Asmaa

Project 10 pan #10

I can always count on Asmaa's blog to bring me variety. Her posts cover everything from fashion to product reviews to one of my favourite topics - FOOD! Her blog is also amazing for girls who wear headscarves/hijabs because she has a great eye for beautiful prints and materials and also posts tips for girls who wear a headscarf (such as her most recent post on how to wear earrings with a hijab). She recently did a series of posts which documented her using up and finishing 10 products and trying not to buy more while she did this. I have definitely been inspired to do my own project pan from Asmaa's blog, so keep an eye out! Click the link above to see the products Asmaa used up during her project 10 pan.

Lip Saviours: Rose Petal Salve

Hey dolls! Just a quick post to share another of my favourite lip products with you. As I have mentioned before, I have quite dry lips generally and even more so during the winter and colder months. For years I used Vaseline, then switched to Carmex. Then last year in my October Boudoir Prive (now Jolie Box UK) box I received this:

My new found love: The Rose Petal Salve from Rose & Co Apothecary. I think I may be addicted! Jokes aside though, this salve is absolutely amazing. It really soothes my dry, chapped lips and makes them feel moisturised again.

The formula of the salve is thick and creamy and when applied on my lips it provides a barrier from the harsh winter weather. It can also be used to moisturise dry skin areas such as elbows, knees and just about anywhere! Not only that, the salve can be used like an eyebrow gel to tame unruly eyebrow hairs. It's a multi-purpose balm and it works brilliantly.

The ingredients are as above. The salve is quite heavily rose-scented, something I was not too fond of at first but have grown used to. I especially like to apply this at night just before going to bed. When I wake up, my lips feel soft, supple and smooth and not dry at all! The only downside to this product is the fact that it comes in a metal tin which you have to dip your fingers into. Personally for me, I prefer not having to put my fingers into products for hygiene reasons, but it doesn't put me off this lip balm - purely because it works so well.

I would highly recommend this product for those who suffer from dry lips and dry patchy skin. The salve can be purchased from the Rose & Co website at £5 and is available online at Amazon and other sites from as low as £3.99.

Did any of you receive the October Boudoir Prive box with this salve? What are your thoughts on it? Can you recommend any other lip balms that you think work well for dry lips?

Human Fundamentalism by Illamasqua

Hi lovelies, last night I attended the launch of Illamasqua's SS12 collection titled "Human Fundamentalism"..

Images from the campaign

This collection is a celebration and encouragement of individuality and non conformity. Illamasqua tells us to be who we are and not who we are told to be. It's about breaking the boundaries and re-creating classic makeup looks with a brave twist. You are encouraged to swap that everyday black eyeliner for a quirky white line; make a statement with a bold lip colour which isn't red but teal blue and to mix up this season's hottest colour mint green with a vibrant purple on your nails.

The Human Fundamentalism Collection

This is the full collection - or so we all thought when we entered the building. A little surprise was waiting for us in another room however:

Skin Base Foundation Au

This is a Limited Edition Skin Base Foundation which can worn alone or mixed in with your usual foundation. Au is the chemical symbol for gold and the product contains tiny flecks of metallic shimmer to give your skin a beautiful glowing look - perfect for any skin tone.

The Fundamental Palette

The centrepiece of the collection is the above eyeshadow palette. It's a bold mix of shades and textures, using clashing colours from opposing sides of the colour wheel which can be used alone or blended together to create vibrant new shades. I did however, prefer the neutral palette, especially the antique gold shade named "Vintage" which is gorgeous!

The two nail polishes in "Nomad" (a bright jade colour) and "Stance" (a violet fuchsia) were also in my picks from the collection as were the single eyeshadows in the shades "Burst" and "Vernau".

The very talented Alex Box using the collection

Sweets, milkshakes and cherryade to fit the 90's flashback theme

We were very generously given a box of goodies to take away with us at the end of the evening. Mine contained two of the single matte eyeshadows in the colours "Pivot" and "Burst" plus the daring teal lipstick in "Apocalips" and a bottle of sealing gel - used to turn any powder product into a water-resistant pigment paste.

The event was everything I expected from Illamasqua. It was a mixture of candy, dancing, and a tribal performance from Ande Sombe which was very interesting and unexpected! It was a reflection of the brand and their quirky, ecclectic identity which they definitely remain true to with this fabulous collection. It is available online and in stores from 14th March, but if you really cannot wait you can preorder your favourites from today.

Many thanks to Hayley for inviting me to this launch and for her lovely warm welcome, which always makes a person feel at ease when walking into a room full of strangers!

Which products are your picks from the collection? Would you be brave enough to wear "Apocalips"? Leave a comment and let me know what you think!

NOTD: Mischeviously Minty

Hi everyone, just wanted to share a quick NOTD with you. As some of you may be aware, mint green is the biggest colour to wear for Spring. If you read my blog regularly you may have noticed a previous Wordless Wednesday which featured a gorgeous box of MAC goodies which my other half bought for me. I have worn the red colour but had not yet tried out the other two nail polishes which were in the box of gifts.

Now I'm not sure if this was planned and my other half has some sort of secret link to the fashion world, or it was completely by chance (since he bought these gifts last year for me), but one of the polishes was this:

This is "Mischevious Mint" by MAC. Now that Spring is (kind of) here, I couldn't wait to try this colour out on my nails.

Taken without flash

Taken with flash

I absolutely love this colour and the way it complements my skin tone. This is using two coats of the nail polish. I did find this polish to be quite streaky when applying and if you look closely it still has some streaks in the colour but with the second coat it wasn't too bad and that won't put me off from using this polish again.

The polish photographs a little bluer than it's true colour unfortunately.

What are your opinions on MAC nail polishes?

Especially Escada

Hey girls today I want to share one of the many gifts that was included in the goody bag I was given at the Superdrug event I attended two weeks ago (see my post about the day here).

This is the new perfume from Escada, named "Especially Escada". It is described as being 'a luxurious and feminine scent inspired by the spirit of today’s joyful, spontaneous and glamorous woman who likes to let her emotions run wild! Her attitude is positive, she loves to have fun and her happiness is her strength, but she always remains true to herself.'

We were given the 30ml bottle in the bag which retails at approximately £32 from stores such as Boots etc. I have been wearing this for about a week now and the scent is right up my street. Although it is based around the scent of a rose, the perfume is not overly flowery. It is however, a very sweet and overly girly scent, (much like others in the range from Escada) so if you prefer deeper, musky smells then it probably isn't for you. The bottle is cube shaped and the lid pulls off to reveal the spray atomiser. I usually spray it before getting dressed just once on my wrists and behind my ears, then again just once in the air above me after getting dressed and the scent lasts pretty much all day.

I love the fact that the bottle design has been left simple so that the lid can give it that edgy, sophisticated look. I don't like pretentious looking perfume bottles and the fact that the design has been kept only to the lid sits well with me. The only downside is that the lid is gold and shiny and unfortunately picks up fingerprints and marks very easily.

Personally, I think this is the perfect perfume for Spring. I would repurchase this scent and luckily for me, Escada are keeping this as a permanent addition to their range of fragrances! I have found other Escada perfumes to be a little too sweet for my taste so I'm grateful that I was given this at the event as I probably wouldn't have picked it up if I was to browse perfumes myself!

Have you tried Especially Escada or any other Escada fragrances? What is your favourite perfume for Spring?

PIXIGlow Launch Event

Hey dolls how are you all? A short while back I was invited by the lovely Camilla and HalpernPR to a beauty launch event and on Wednesday evening I attended the launch of PIXI beauty's Spring/Summer Collection with RachelHafsa and Tanzina. I also saw the lovely Sundari and Megan who also attended the event. This is an exciting collaboration with Disney and the collection is inspired by the character of Tinkerbell from Peter Pan. The launch took place at PIXI's flagship store in Carnaby Street, London and the collection was available as of yesterday in Boots stores.

Personally, I have seen the brand in Boots stores previously but have never tried their products, so I was quite excited to finally take a proper look at what the brand offers and I was pleasantly surprised. The range of products is wide and the packaging is cute and quirky. The Tinkerbell collection in particular is lovely and I would definitely use some of the products they have made for Spring/Summer. Here's a little peek into what went on at the event.

Lovely packaging in pretty spring colours

Tinkerbell "Fairy Face" palette which contains 5 eye colours, a 3-colour blush, 5 lip creams and applicators

Nail polishes in pretty colours

My favourite product from the collection was the range of Tinted Brilliance Balms. These are highly moisturising tinted lip colours and I fell in love with so many shades! My favourite though, has to be shade 6 "Baby Bare".

Clockwise from top left: The famous Pixi Succulent Lip twins; Yummy cupcakes; Amazing nail polishes from Pixi's sister brand "POP"

The staff at the store were very helpful and so friendly, especially Wendy who took the time to show us every product from the Tinkerbell range and suggested which shades would suit our skin tones. As we left, we were given a very generous gift containing 6 products from the new Tinkerbell range: Fairy Face Palette, Straight On Til Morning Liner, Catching Shadows Crayon, Magic Tink Tint,Fairy Dust and a nail polish.

The event was very busy and the store was not huge, but I would consider the launch a massive success and I love the Tinkerbell range. I will definitely be taking more notice of the brand now! You can buy PIXI at the flagship boutique, Boots stores and on

What do you think of the range? Have you used any PIXI cosmetics before?
